Say goodbye to the PC and digital camera. Experts say these will be replaced by smart phones.
By putting the power of the Internet in the palm of our hand, smart phones have transformed the world. They've expanded people's horizons and accelerated the pace at which we do business.
And it's exploding. According to Gartner, smart phone sales grew by 96% from the third quarter last year. In other words, sales have doubled in just 12 months.
But if smart phones have changed the way we go about our business, they are also likely to destroy businesses. 24/7 Wall St says the smart phone will torpedo 10 products. These are watches, PDAs, like Palm Pilots, MP3 players, flip video cameras, digital cameras, handheld video games, GPS, PCs, ordinary mobile phones and remote controls.
This is not the stuff of science fiction. It could happen sooner than we think with a recent survey by Kelton Research for Samsung Mobile showing that nearly three-quarters (72%) of respondents said that their dependency on their smart phone had reduced the frequency they use an office computer or laptop and that 51 percent now turned to their smart phone to work on projects instead of their computer, even if their monitor was within reach.
