Politicians are starting to get Rupert Murdoch's measure.
Former US vice president Al Gore has ripped into Murdoch's News Corporation for shutting down a TV station in Italy. He claims Murdoch did this after the station hired a left leaning US commentator Keith Olbermann, a news commentator who has described Murdoch as the "worst person in the world"
"News Corporation is an international conglomerate with an ideological agenda. It seeks political power in every nation they operate. They wield that power to shut down voices that disagree with the agenda of Rupert Murdoch," Gore said.
In Australia, Greens leader Bob Brown has attacked News Corporation,
accusing it of running a vendetta against his party. "It's not balanced. It is opinionated. It's not news. It's not what you would read in other countries around the world.''
Still, the empire is striking back. One of Murdoch's most prominent commentators, Dennis Shanahan in The Australian says Murdoch press is just doing its job and holding Brown up to scrutiny. But then, he's not being completely up front, the Oz has done more than that. This is the same paper that called for the Greens to be destroyed at the ballot box.
As Brown and Gore would say, that's not presenting news at all. It's about running agendas.
