Apple versus YouTube

Apple versus YouTube

Is Apple planning to build a YouTube killer?

Bloomberg reports that Apple is looking to expand its AirPlay audio service to include streaming video from an iPhone or iPad to television sets to stream movies, TV shows and other video content. It's a big shift because AirPlay provides only audio content at the moment. That would allow users to stream programming wirelessly from their Apple mobile device to a TV that carries the technology in their living room. That would completely screw YouTube, and its owner Google.

Consider this: Apple not only has video capture in iPhones, iPads and iPods, it also has video editing and post production tools, like Final Cut Pro, Garage Band, Logic Studios, Motion and Soundtrack Pro, not to mention hardware and software, in the form of iTunes, Apple TV, iPad, iPhone and the Mac.

Add to that the report that Apple already accounts for 80 per cent of all mobile video.

If the report, it could seriously stymie YouTube which has recently announced plans to add channels to make itself more viable for Internet-connected TVs. Watch this space.
