Bankers and the greedy gene

It seems the global financial crisis was caused by genetics.

Citywire reports that there is a gene prevalent in bankers that stops them from co-operating and thinking of others. It's the so-called "greedy"gene, or AFL11 which creates unusually high testosterone levels and makes its carriers unable to empathise with other human beings. This gene restricts production of a neurotransmitter which is required for social co-operation.

According to research out of University College in London, bankers are full of it.

One of the researchers Phil Jenkins is reported saying: "'Genetics has historically focused on physiological predispositions such as the "tall gene" or the "ginger gene" – this is the first time we've been able to make reliable predictions about a person's psychological traits, and likely career path, based on their DNA.

"About 2.7% of the population possesses the greedy gene, whereas among bankers it's an astonishing 84%. In normal life these people are shunned or sent to mental hospital; in the City, they get promoted."
