David Cameron's Twitter Tsar

In Britain, protesters are up in arms over the Cameron Government's 20% budget cuts. There are claims that the sheer scale of the cuts to payments and public services will destroy Britain and plunge it into a second recession.

But while he is slashing and hacking, Cameron is looking to hire a "Twitter Tsar" for £142,000 a year ($US232,306) to raise the Government's profile on social networking sites..

That's £1,000 a character, very generous indeed and not at all in keeping with the British government's line on austerity. Not surprisingly, the Daily Mail says it's all a publicity stunt, pointing out that Mr Cameron, who used to work in PR before becoming a politician, is more interested in public relations than he is in governing the country.

In the meantime, benefits and services to the public in Britain will get squeezed. Nice to know what his priorities are.
