The fallout from the Fukushima reactor disaster gets worse every day.
New Scientist reports that the radiation emissions from the nuclear power plant have reached levels approaching those seen in the aftermath of the Chernobyl accident in 1986. That would make it close to becoming the worst nuclear disaster ever.
The Japan Times reports that radioactive substances released from the crippled nuclear power station have already reached the United States and Iceland, and are expected to go around the globe in two to three weeks. The Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization says the amount is too small to affect humans, but it's a worry. A number of governments around the world have banned Japanese food imports.
This is just the beginning.
