A New York iPad case maker wants rich investment bankers to stick their iPads into Bernie Madoff's pants.
Case maker Frederick James run by tech entrepreneur John Vaccaro is selling iPad cases made from trousers formerly owned by Bernie Madoff, the swindler who cheated billions out of institutions and individuals alike in the largest Ponzi scheme in history.
The New York Post reports: "Vaccaro's company, Frederick James, had already been making iPad covers out of cashmere, but when he heard about the Madoff auction last fall, the idea clicked. Spending "much more than I wanted to," he prevailed in bidding wars for all 16 pairs of Madoff's pants, which ranged from Polo Ralph Lauren and Murphy & Nye sailing pants to Banana Republic. 'First I searched all the pockets to see if there were any $100 bills inside,' he said. 'Then I found a designer who could make the cases from the cut-up clothing, which was tricky.'
Mind you, the cases don't come cheap, selling for as much $500. It's just the sort of thing that suits your average investment banker ripping off investors.
Madoff, now in the slammer serving 150 years for fraud, is unlikely to need his pants back.
"There are a lot of collectors out there who would like to own a quirky piece of history, even the worst kind, says Vaccaro in a press release. "I would have been first in line to own a piece from the Dillinger or Bonnie & Clyde era."
