Google sues US Government

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Google is now taking the US government to court for favoring Microsoft. The complaint alleges that Google was completely shut of the process.

The lawsuit shows how determined Google is to secure business from the US Government. What will it get out of this? At best, Google will get an injunction on the current agreement being formed between the Department of the Interior and Microsoft. If that happens, Google will be allowed to enter the bidding war for a contract.

Interestingly, TechCrunch found a statement put out by the Obama administration early last year warning that "excessive reliance by executive agencies on sole-source contracts (or contracts with a limited number of sources) and cost-reimbursement contracts creates a risk that taxpayer funds will be spent on contracts that are wasteful, inefficient, subject to misuse, or otherwise not well designed to serve the needs of the Federal Government or the interests of the American taxpayer."

It remains to be seen whether that will be used as evidence in the court.
