The bank with the worst reputation? (Drum roll). It's Goldman Sachs. Quelle surprise.
According to this report, 54 per cent of traders around the world have a bad opinion of Goldman Sachs. Not that this will affect the Goldman Sachs business. Investors will keep putting with banks that will provide them with the best returns, regardless of morality.
But in the long term, being portrayed as the poster child of corporate greed and manipulative financial engineering will hurt the bank. Add to that the possibility of criminal charges. The Financial Times reports that Goldman Sachs could still face charges from the US Department of Justice for its conduct during the financial crisis.
The American government wants to find a scapegoat for the financial disaster that was created out of US government policies. Goldman Sachs will do.
