Meet the hacker who claims he took down Wikileaks

Wikileaks has been forced to take on a new domain name, wikileaks.ch, after numerous attacks on its servers left it homeless.

So who are some of the parties behind the attacks? Given the delicate political nature of the documents released by WikiLeaks, it's safe to assume that a government body has spearheaded the disruptions.

Now a self-proclaimed computer hacktivist known on Twitter as The Jester claims to be the one taking it down. In his Twitter information, the jester describes himself as a "Hacktivist for good. Obstructing the lines of communication for terrorists, sympathizers, fixers, facilitators, oppressive regimes and other general bad guys", taking down Wikileaks "for attempting to endanger the lives of our troops, 'other assets' & foreign relations".

The Jester also claims to target radical Islamic sites.

But then as Stan Schroeder writes in Mashable, who knows really what's going on? "While it is entirely possible for one experienced and resourceful hacker to take down a site – even a fairly large one – by a DDoS attack on his own, it's not easy to prove whether the Jester is really behind the attack and, if he is, whether he was working on his own or if he had help,'' Schroeder writes. "We're sure the story will only give more fuel to the various rumors that are flying around Wikileaks being taken down."

Whatever the Jester's claims, this still seems have the fingerprints of government all over it.
