Oracle vs HP: not business, it's personal

The war between Oracle and Hewlett Packard continues.

Last month, I wrote about Hewlett Packard suing former HP chief Mark Hurd for joining its competitor Oracle. Lots of heated things were said and it looks like it's not going to get any better. These two companies hate each other.

Now, Oracle chief executive officer Larry Ellison has hit back at Hewlett Packard for replacing Hurd with former SAP chief Leo Apotheker who was at the helm of that company when it admitted to pinching Oracle's intellectual property. Ellison shot off an email to Reuters telling them that SAP had fessed up to the theft and that Hewlett Packard would have known all about it. ""The HP board must have been aware of these facts, yet they appointed Leo CEO of HP anyway,'' Ellison said. "What happened to 'the HP way'? "

Silicon Valley reporter Chris O'Brien says these sorts of heated fights have now become a characteristic of the Valley. First we saw lots of bad blood between Google and Apple and now it's Oracle and HP. As he says, it's no longer business, it's personal. If nothing else, it's entertaining to watch.
