Pilots ban body scanners

Body scanners are being installed at airports around the world but there are questions whether that can continue.

As reported here, the largest union of airline pilots in the world wants to boycott scanners citing dangers of excessive exposure to harmful levels of radiation during the screening process. Pilots want to refrain from being put through the scanners, claiming they are already experiencing higher than average exposure than other occupations and, as a result, a likelihood of higher than average cancer rates.

This comes after warnings from scientists that scanners may increase cancer risks.

At the same time, consumer advocate Ralph Nader has joined up with the Electronic Privacy Information Center which has filed a lawsuit claiming that the body scanners are easily hackable, store nude pictures for unknown periods of time, expose people to radiation and don't even catch terrorists.

Watch this space. We can expect more lawsuits.
