Financier George Soros believes the United States is already in recession.
Meanwhile, Dr Doom, Nouriel Roubini, is predicting that there is now a 60 per cent chance of the US sliding into recession in 2012, an election year.
Not only that, Roubini says we might see uprisings in the United States. Business Day reports him saying: "There is growing inequality all over the world. We have already seen middle-class unrest in Israel. Germans have smashed fat cats' cars," Prof Roubini said, predicting there would be protests as well in the world's largest economy . "As we go into another recession, there will be unrest in the US."
Indeed, we might be seeing the beginnings of that with the recent Occupy Wall Street rally.
The Arab Spring, the riots in Greece, Spain and London and the unrest in Israel might be part of a much broader trend that will engulf other economies, including the US.
