The end of Wikipedia?

The end of Wikipedia?

Wikipedia might be dying.

Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales has told Associated Press that the Internet's fifth most visited site is having trouble attracting volunteer editors and contributors. "We are not replenishing our ranks," he said, "it is not a crisis, but I consider it to be important."

The problem, according to Wales, is that the typical contributor is a 26 year old male geek. Trouble is they get married and settle in to new lives. So some of it is natural attrition. But there would be other reasons too.

Wikipedia kicked off in January 2001 and there would be an entire generation of kids who grew up, plagiarizing it for their essays. Many others too. Clearly, Wikipedia has to find a way of becoming cool again. That's the only way it will survive. Then again, if Wikipedia ever does die it will be hard to believe it. After all, where will we go to confirm that it's gone?
