The IMF arrest and Greece

The major story this weekend was the arrest of IMF head Dominique Strauss-Khan for allegedly attempting to rape a New York hotel housemaid. What a classy individual.

We don't know exactly what happened but this guy does have form. In 2008, the IMF hauled him over the coals for having an affair with a colleague. He was accused of exercising a 'serious error of judgment'. Mind you, he didn't get the sack.

That says a lot about the IMF. It's been screwing weaker countries for years so it's hardly surprising that those at the top think they can do the same to house maids.

The big question is how this will affect the Greek bailout. The Guardian reports that it puts in doubt talks by Eurozone financial leaders as to whether Greece should be given more money. DSK, as he is known in France, has played a big role in forging the eurozone's response to the massive debt crisis in places like Greece. He's has been a champion for supporting Greece, despite growing scepticism about the Greek government's ability to meet the conditions of its original €110 billion rescue package from the European Union and the IMF, which was agreed in May 2010. One thing for sure, his arrest means there will be no quick resolution to the Greek crisis.

It also raises questions about the people we have brought in to run the world's markets.
