And so at last, the Trumpster is entering India. Or is it just a marketing ploy?
The Financial Times reports that Donald Trump is now planning to develop a super luxury 65-storey tall "condo" in south Mumbai. It's all part of a partnership with the Mumbai-based developer Rohan Lifescapes. The venture will headed by Trump's son Donald Jr. The Donald has been talking about entering the Indian market for some time, hoping to take care of the demand for luxury properties with the growing population of Indian millionaires. Some plans he had back in 2008 were scuttled by the global financial crisis.
So it seems to be happening now. But is it for real?
The Indians report that Trump isn't actually investing any money in the venture and neither is his son because of Indian foreign direct investment regulations. Rohan Lifescapes will be putting up the money. Trump's only investment is his brand name, presumably for a slice of the takings. Little risk in that.
