Your iPhone's watching you

We know the iPhone and iPad have GPS locators that allow you to find them when they are lost.

Well, the Guardian reports that researchers have found that the iPhone keeps track of whereever you go. As one of the researchers Peter Warden told the paper: ""Apple has made it possible for almost anybody – a jealous spouse, a private detective – with access to your phone or computer to get detailed information about where you've been."

But technically, we shouldn't be surprised. Check the wording in Apple's privacy policy. "We may collect information such as occupation, language, zip code, area code, unique device identifier, location, and the time zone where an Apple product is used so that we can better understand customer behavior and improve our products, services, and advertising."

And by accepting Apple's updated software programs, you have tacitly agreed to it.

Still, Apple might have created some problems for itself with Politico reporting that Congress and the Federal Communications Commission are going to look into this matter. They regard it as a breach of privacy.

It's worth noting that Google got into big trouble last year when it was collecting personal data as part of its Street View project. The company has since stopped. It will be interesting to see whether Apple is brought into line.
