Automakers flew to Washington in private jets

General Motors' finance arm GMAC has applied with the Federal Reserve to become a bank holding company and the automakers have taken their case to the public with General Motors behind a website gmfactsandfiction.com which purportedly seeks to set the record straight.

According to the website, the industry's demise would devastate the United States. It urges the public to lobby politicians.

Still, their public relations just sucks with the Big Three's chief executives flying to Washington this week in private luxury jets to ask for taxpayers' money. Talk about arrogance and stupidity!

Is it any wonder that the chairman of the US Senate Banking Committee Christopher Dodd has told Reuters that a bailout package is unlikely at this stage?
