BP still has to stop the oil spillwith the mud not doing what it's supposed to be doing. Initial estimates have the company spending more than $900 million to fix the worst oil spill disaster in US history.
And so it's not surprising, and some would say not before time, that US Federal prosecutors are now looking to bring criminal charges against BP. The Los Angeles Times reports that prosecutors are looking at whether BP skirted federal safety regulations and misled the US government by saying it could quickly clean up an environmental accident.
One former Federal prosecutor quoted here says criminal charges are inevitable, looking at such issues as to whether anyone has tampered with evidence and whether there has been an obstruction of justice.
BP's appalling track record, something I covered in a blog entry here would also be taken into account.
