Coke and diversity: how to manage differences
The Coca Cola Company has made significant improvements in the area of diversity, but it still has some way to go after being told by a federal judge to keep its eye on the ball, reports BusinessWeek.

That follows it settling the damaging close to $200 million racial discrimination suit involving African-American employees more than six years ago. Failing to get its act together would have risked a consumer backlash.

Avoiding lawsuits for race discrimination should be fairly straightforward and largely a matter of common sense. Here's a fairly simple guide from lawyers for what NOT to do.

The list: failing to post anti-Harassmentlinks and discrimination policies, not creating a paper trail, failing to train supervisors, making the complaint process difficult, victimising the complainant and failing to learn from experience. The same rules would apply to bullying and sexual harassment.

Pretty straight up and down really, it's just amazing how many companies fail to do that. And like Coke, they find out the hard way.
