I wanna tell you a little bit about the oil/natural gas business, for example: Quicksilver Resources Inc. they are a Fort Worth-based natural gas exploration and production company.
As compared to other energy producing companies, Quicksilver suffered from weak natural gas prices in 2009. They posted third quarter 2009 earnings of 25 cents per share, it was still above the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 21 cents. But the results dropped versus from last year's earnings (40 cents).
The company expects a net loss of multiple $$$ millions worth of revenues for 2009. The total revenues in the quarter declined 13% year over year, and oil sales (down 9%). But the strategie for Quicksilver is (during the quarter) to reduce and control costs.
