Earlier this month, I did a blog entry looking at what was needed to save the print media. I said the print media would need to reinvent itself and come up with completely new delivery models.
Now we have an example of that happening in Germany where two young entrepreneurs have set up a new paper, called Niiu, which lets readers choose the types of articles they want to read taken from a range of German and international newspapers, Readers register on the website, www.niiu.dethen access other papers, pages and sections online that they find interesting to create their own paper. But instead of reading it online, their selections are printed overnight and delivered to their doorstep, at a price.
Der Spiegel reports that the customized paper, to be launched in November, will only be available in Berlin (and it helps if you read German).
But then, it could work in London, Vienna, New York and Sydney. This could be a taste of what’s ahead.
