Cyber crime pandemic

We are in a cyber crime pandemic and it's getting worse with US federal authorities telling the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committee this week that the crooks are now turning their attention to small businesses, a much easier hit than larger more secure corporations.

The problem is jurisdiction. Cyber criminals oeprate in a world without borders and can strike businesses in different countries. As reported here, it means business needs international protocols and co-operation between all countries and that's unlikely to happen. The Australian Federal Police claim most of the cyber crime is being perpetrated by organized crime gangs in Russia. The Australian Federal Police are working with the FBI. Then we have reports of a cyber crime hub operating out of Estonia.

Anyone who still thinks the people behind cyber criminal activity are just geeks is kidding themselves. As reported here, it is now a secret economy with criminals making billions of dollars from stolen identities and selling credit card and bank account information. Credit cards are being sold cheap, as low 98 cents while a full identity costs just $10. And business is booming.
