Phishing. E-bank theft. Spoofing. Botnets.
All terms describing different forms of cybercrime. Some good details in this piece of research from Stan Kratchman, Jacob Smith and L. Murphy Smith from the university of texas. Their paper, The perpetration and prevention of cybercrimes, sheds light on how these crimes work and how to deal with it.
While there is not much new in the solutions offered - tripwires, configuration-checking tools and anomaly detection systems - the paper is worth reading just to get an idea of what can actually happen.
