Earlier this year, I did an entry looking at dell's accounting problems and how it had run into with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
At the time, I suggested that Dell's accounting headaches were just a small part of a much more troubling picture.
Now the problems continue with reports that New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has filed a lawsuit alleging, among other things, that Dell cheated on its customers by luring them in with zero percent financing, then switching them to a higher rate without their knowledge at the time of purchase. He's also accused Dell of selling onsite computer repair programs but failing to deliver.
"At Dell, customer service means no service at all. Dell's consumers were intentionally misled, and they had to pay for that privilege. I hope this lawsuit sends a message to companies large and small that delivering a product is simply not enough – the promises they make must be delivered as well,'' Cuomo said in his statement.
Cuomo has also set up website to drum up complaints against Dell.
Investors didn't seem to mind. In fact, they seemed relieved and bought into the stock. Analysts told Reuters that investors were pleased the rumor that Dell was in more trouble with the SEC was false.
Another reason for the share price gain was Michael Dell announcing plans to start selling personal computers in retail stores, basically turning the business model that had made the company so successful on its head.
Interesting times for Dell. Watch this space.
25 days after receiving my $2500 computer and monitor from Dell it crashed. I called Dell and was shuffled from one computer tech to another on the phone. After speaking to a minimum of 8 people in India and six hours later trouble-shooting, I was told that they would be sending me a “refurbished” computer to replace my new one. They refused to send me a new one because their return policy is 22 days from the time they ship it. How does anyone even know if the computer they originally receive is actually new and not refurbished? I have had numerous issues with the refurbished computer as well. I barely use it and it has crashed twice, had to reinstall Windows. I am a small business owner and have solid knowledge of computer issues so I was able to fix some issues myself. I feel sorry for the first time computer buyer with limited knowledge of computers. I will never buy another Dell. Why should I support another company who outsources jobs to other countries and sells substandard refurbished goods under false pretenses. Dell-you should be ashamed of yourselves.
Just recently got trapped in a Dell nightmare. One I stand a very good chance of winning. Dell does dupe their customers and they engage in some of the most despicable practices out there.
Note that Dell has a heavily flawed sales process when conducted over the phone which does not bind the customer to any form of terms or conditions of sale, use or support. A very useful silver-bullet if you’re caught in a disagreement with Dell.
bought a dell over the phone when i got the first bill the intrest rate was over 30percent payed over the amount next month never recived a bill guess what late charges on the next bill i get a bill every other month for six months when i call i cant understand a word the person is saying i have been paying for over a year and owe more now than when i bought the computer i was not told about the high interest or i would have went some where else now going from great credit to bad just because of dells greed and lack of honesty is there anyone that cares any more one very unhappy dell user would not recommend to anyone thanks
I have always been a buy Dell person never again will I buy or suggest for anyone to buy Dell I personaly think they are ripping people off period. Don’t want Dell even in Texas anymore because they bring down Texas. My most recent experience is that after months of trying to convince Dell my speakers did not work they sent a tech to fix, meanwhile my warranty was up for renewal…wanting to wait to see if it was handled satisfactory before I make the decision to renew or not, well becaause it is past the day of renewal I no longer have any choices. When asked if they would pay again for a service they had not yet received they just said sorry!
I am in Dell Hell. Has anyone had problems with their Dell Inspiron 1500 laptop. Alex…why is the sale over the phone not binding. I am going to file a small claim suit to get a refund for my hunk of junlk Dell. They ahve sent me three and all of been flawed.
I think this would give bad impression of dell that they faced so many problems because now customers not only sees how product works but also about brand reputation with the customers and dell should really work on this in order to survive in the market!
