Fascinating to watch the developments flow from the revelations in the Los Angeles Times last month about the legal dispute between writer Clive Cussler and Crusader Entertainment over that dog of a movie, Sahara.

The superb Times piece by Glenn F. Bunting not only lifts the lid on the way they blew money on the loss -making movie – from vintage plane crashes costing $2 million that were deleted from the final release, to actor Matthew McConaughey getting an $8-million actor's fee, $833,923 in what the budget called "star perks', his company getting paid $250,000 for his role as an executive producer plus bonuses and royalties from merchandising, video game and soundtrack revenues.

The piece also gives some interesting insights into the ethics of the movie industry with stories about bribes and product placements.

At the moment, there are duelling lawsuits and the accusations are flying thick and fast. Cussler has accused the Sahara producers of bribery and Crusader Entertainment has accused Cussler of inflating his book sales.

Watch this space.
