
Green information technology services are set to grow in 2010 with companies desperate to cut costs, according to analysts at Frost&Sullivan. They say data centers will top airlines as the biggest polluters by 2020 and the focus will be on cutting energy costs by reducing the power needs of data centers, accelerating the need for companies to find new ways of dealing with ongoing issues around power, cooling and space in their data centers.
Inc. magazine comes up with eight ways to cut costs using Green IT. These include virtualization software which optimizes the power of each server, making sure the IT department sees the electricity bill to get them to cut costs, trading up your computer, getting rid of screen savers, toning down monitors, investing in power strips and not leaving printers on at night.
None of these are that expensive but they can save thousands of dollars.
