EMI sells Abbey Road

EMI sells Abbey Road

Earlier this month, I looked at the possibility of EMI, the label behind artists like Robbie Williams and the Beatles, going bust. Terra Firma, the private equity firm that bought the world's most famous record label, is now struggling to pay billions of dollars in debt.

Now we have the Financial Times reporting that EMI has put Abbey Road studios immortalized by the Beatles album of the same name, on the market.

Of course, the Beatles weren't the only ones to use the studios. Pink Floyd recorded Dark Side of the Moon there and it was also used by other bands like Radiohead.

The studio comes with a fantastic brand name but whether it gets EMI out of its financial mess remains to be seen. Even the sale won't cover all that debt.

EMI could still go bust. They might sing the Beatles song "Money, That's All I Want". But people with a sense of music history might respond with "Can't Buy Me, Love".
