Even for the United States, this one has to be one of the more bizarre lawsuits.
The Wall Street Journal reports that some unknown, one Paul D Ceglia, has gone to the courts claiming he owns 84% of Facebook. He insists that Facebook founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg signed a contract with him in 2003 to develop and design the website, giving him 50% plus 1% interest in the business for every day after Jan. 1, 2004.
The newspaper says: "A copy of the contract seen by The Wall Street Journal says it is 'for the purchase and design of a suitable website for the project Seller [Mr. Zuckerberg] has already initiated that is designed to offer the students of Harvard university [sic] access to a wesite [sic] similar to a live functioning year book with the working title of 'The Face Book.' "
What kind of person is Ceglia? The paper goes on to say that there is now legal action against him for defrauding customers of his wood-pellet fuel company.
So did Zuckerbeg sign the contract? Facebook says the case is "frivolous" and that it will fight it. In the end, the only ones who will make money out of this will be the lawyers.
