Vice President Joe Biden reckons the financial stimulus program is working and pulling the US out of recession. He says it's changed the trajectory of the economy.
He must have missed the latest reports that a record number of Americans received food stamps in June. More than 35 million Americans received them, up 22% from a year ago. That's the seventh straight month in which food stamp rolls set a record.
Whatever spin the politicians want to put on things, it doesn't sound like a recovery. The US economy might not be getting worse but for a growing section of the US population, it's not getting better either.
