So Fox has announced it won't screen Barack Obama's prime time news conference and will instead screen the scheduled drama Lie To Me.
Variety magazine says it's a matter of economics. It's financially based, and not political, it says. Still, it is the first time a network hasn't interrupted its prime time broadcasting schedule and the decision will do nothing to allay the concerns of those who point out that Fox has been steadfast in its criticism of the Obama administration.
On the other hand, it might say something about the parlous state of the media industry now given that advertising volumes have evaporated with the recession and that Fox owner News Corporation has reported massive losses.
Then again, maybe both explanations are right.
