Some disturbing but not surprising data from the latest survey out of the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press which found that the economy and job are the top two public priorities for the Obama administration. Global warming ranks as the last.
It's perfectly understandable but failure to deal with climate change will have a catastrophic impact on the economy and business. The impact on the auto industry is only one example, with GM, Ford and DaimlerChrysler scrambling to catch up with Toyota and claiming that by 2010 they would double production of "flexible fuel" vehicles, which can run on ethanol blends of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. Other industries likely to be affected would include insurance, real estate, tourism, farming, food and beverages, utilities and construction. I looked at this issue two nearly years ago in this blog entry.
Clearly, if the climate crisis is not addressed, there will be no economy as we know it.
I was interested to find the Sox First blog. 20 years ago I had a book published on different economic concepts to point the way to a sustainable world economy. Someone who liked the book contacted me this year to suggest that I update and re-publish it as a blog. She set up the blog, and the book is now complete on the blog in a series of postings. There are now also additional pieces on global warming and other subjects. Here is the link:
