Google and Mongolia: leading the way in solar power

Fascinating developments in the world of solar power. Exciting innovative things are happening in that space.

First, The Times reports that Mongola is set to become a world leader in solar energy with Chinese officials signing a deal with American business to convert a remote desert area of inner Mongolia into massive solar field, creating the biggest solar plant on this planet. The plant will be operating in 2019. One of the reasons they are building it there is it's cheaper. In the US it would cost $6 billion, but in China it's a lot cheaper.

The second big development is the report that Google is looking to develop inexpensive mirror technology that will reduce the cost of building solar plants. Cheaper plants means more solar power. Google is also investing in companies in this area although you would have to say at this stage, there's not that much to buy.

Still, it's developments like that which could turn solar energy into a growth industry. When the global economy starts to recover, it will be one of the leading sectors.
