The phone market is in for a big shake up with Gizmodo reporting that Google is about to release its own phone with Google-branded hardware running a version of Android we haven't yet seen.
But that raises a lot of questions. For example, are we talking about a phone that runs on a network controlled by Google? Will it be sold by one carrier, subsidized by Google or many?
One thing for sure. Assuming 2010 will be the year of the Droid, it will give Apple a run for its money. And suddenly it makes sense why Google chief executive officer Eric Schmidt resigned from Apple's board in August, something I covered here. Watch this space.
