That's the question raised in this news report. According to Web analytics specialists, the microblogging site seems to have flatlined with 22 million visitors in December, down 770,000 on August.
Still, these sorts of reports need to be treated with caution because the people who use Twitter seem to hyper-engaged with it. Check out the tweets coming from some of the users. They just keep coming.
Nevertheless, according to tech.blorge , Twitter is full of unused accounts with only 17% of users sending only one message in December 2009.
Again, you have to question these sorts of studies because the methodology might not be that flash. They certainly didn't ask me or other Twitter users I know.
In any case, that piece of research shows that Twitter has 75 million accounts, and it's adding 6.2 million per month. While that growth rate is down, it's still impressive. Certainly any media organization would kill to have that sort of following.
So has Twitter peaked? Maybe it's just entered a new phase. It's still way ahead of the newspapers.
