iTunes accounts are not safe, according to new reports. As reported by TechCrunch, there seems to be a gaping security hole in iTunes accounts linked to PayPal. According to the report, iTunes/PayPal accounts are being targeted and money is being drained out of bank accounts.
Security experts, quoted here, say that iTunes is particularly vulnerable because hackers can easily work out the answer to the personal "security" question using information that users have posted on social-networking websites such as Facebook and Twitter.
The Times reports that studies show that the security questions used by iTunes are all easy to guess. Alternatively, the hackers can target accounts by phishing where victims receive an e-mail asking them to click on a link that leads to a fake Apple website, where they are asked to enter their details. Unfortunately, many are fooled into doing it.
Apple has a problem. It better attend to this quickly.
