Earlier this year, I looked at the way business schools had contributed to the recession by producing the financial engineers, Masters of the Business Apocalypse (MBAs) who ended up destroying the markets.
How refreshing then to read about the most unusual business school in the world. KaosPilots in Denmark. It’s a business school that sends its students out to develop community facilities, everything from meeting places to rock festivals to football clubs. The whole idea is for students to use their entrepreneurial skills to build communities and society which is, after all, something that business was always supposed to do. It’s just that along the way, some business leaders forgot about it.
As Ode magazine puts it, the school addresses needs that other business schools ignore.
“It sometimes seems that while the world economy has drastically changed, business education has stood still. While many companies are moving toward a new era—more global, more focused on making a social contribution, more open to democratic decision-making involving employees—most business professors have stayed stuck in traditional, even outdated, ways of thinking.”
No other business school in the world is doing this sort of work. But there are plans to set up sister schools in other countries. And that could bring on a business school revolution.
