Bernard Madoff, 71, gets sentenced on Monday and the tips are coming in on how he could best survive jail. Whether it's 12 years, as his lawyers have asked, or longer. Lawyers have told CNN he is unlikely to leave prison alive.
Madoff is likely to be sent to a medium security jail. And those sorts of jails have violent inmates. Chances are he will be targeted by prisoners with family members suffering financial woes. Many will blame him for their problems. On the other hand, others might turn to him for stock tips.
The bets piece of advice: stay in an area where there are lots of people watching you.
Meanwhile, his dearly beloved family members are doing it tough too. His wife, Ruth, has taken to riding the subway. No more chauffeured luxury car trips for her. Still, Madoff's victims would say that's too good for her. They would say she should spent the rest of her life eating at soup kitchens.
