One of the little observed forces in the economy is the love affair between President Obama and Google.
For insights into this star-struck relationship, check this report in Fortune. From the time of his visit to the Googleplex during the presidential campaign, to him echoing Google’s position on net neutrality, to putting Google CEO Eric Schmidt on his brains trust, to him appointing Google honchos on to his committees and on to his staff including Katie Stanton, a Google business development manager, as director of citizen participation, Sonal Shah as head of social innovation, overseeing federal funding for nonprofits, and turning top Google policy exec McLaughlin into his deputy technology czar.
There doesn’t seem to be anything unhealthy about this relationship, for now. But as Google’s power grows, something I wrote about in my column here, it will need to be watched.
