Profiteers and the Iraq debacle
Saddam Husseinlinks was handed over to a sectarian lynch mob and made to play the lead role in a vile snuff movie. Thousands of Iraqis and Americans are dead and many more are maimed. Billions of dollars have been pouring into a black hole in the failed attempts at Iraqi reconstruction and the ethnic and sectarian forces suppressed by Saddam Hussein have erupted and are raging beyond control.

So who are the real winners in Iraq?

Veteran journalist Robert Scheer says it's the military-industrial complex, the term used by President Dwight D. Eisenhower back in 1961. Scheer explains more in this entry on the Huffington Post.

Certainly, the debacle of Iraq has made certain corporations a lot richer and AlterNet provides us with a list of the top 10 profiteers.

For more on the profiteers, you can watch this trailer from the film Iraq for Sale:

President Bush has named two new commanders for US forces in Iraq, setting the stage for a major shift in strategy and expectations are for an increase in the number of US forces on the ground. Maybe as many as 20,000 extra troops could be sent to the region.

That can only be good news for the profiteers.
