The Germans are coming!! With economies slowing down, German discount chains such as Lidl and Aldi, another are taking market share, charging some 30-50% less for groceries than ordinary supermarkets, reports The Economist.

It's the way of the future. Not the discounting, but the way smart retailers are building emotional connections with customers.

It is an issue that goes well beyond the size of the discount. It's building emotional cachet and helps explain why Starbucks got in such trouble. I explain that in my piece here.
