If you're a racist looking for a luxury hotel, head on down to Florida.
A Haitian-born waiter is suing the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Naples, Florida after a British family, the Morgans, demanded to be served only by whites and people without accents. Here is a copy of the lawsuit.
According to the document, the plaintiff claims he was "humiliated, embarrassed, frightened, intimidated, subject to underserved emotional shame and suffered severe emotional distress". He was told his services as a waiter weren't necessary.
The thing that gets me about this case is why the Morgans even bothered coming to the states. If you don't want have anything to do with people of color in the US, you might as well never leave your room. Don't see a doctor, don't go to a bank, don't buy anything from a shop and don't catch a bus.
What's even more extraordinary is the news report telling us that the racist request was entered into the hotel's computer system before the hotel agreed to the request. The hotel management deserves to be sued just for its stupidity.
