Sarbanes-Oxley: time's running out?
With Sarbanes-Oxley now subject to vocal attacks and lawsuits, Paul Sarbaneslinks has come out defending the legislation, saying the critics have it all wrong. In particular, he slates the claim that it was rushed through as a quick political fix. You can read about it here and here.

But the anti-SOX campaign is becoming more vocal. This piece in the Orlando Sentinal details the case against it, as set out by E.O'Brien Murray, the executive director of the Free Enterprise Fund. Whether you agree with him or not, his arguments are worth reading because there are plenty of businesses out there that feel exactly the same way. Which is why the law looks likely to change.

Of course, the author is not exactly a neutral player. The Free Enterprise Fund has a constitutional challenge against Sarbanes-Oxley. There's a good summary about the lawsuit, and the growing tide of anti-SOX resentment here.

The Act has also come under fire from venture capitalists who say it's made it more expensive to go public, which means fewer IPOs.
