Very struck by a recent piece in Inc. on the best smart phone apps for business owners. Like for example TomTom which integrates with your phone's contact list, providing quick directions to a client's office or sales call. Or the Timewerks built-in stopwatch which helps you track the hours spent on a project and create client invoices. Or Jott which records voice messages and then converts them to text and sends them to contacts. That means you don't have to text while driving. Indeed, you don't have to text. Or the Easy Translator app which converts words and phrases from English to French, German, Spanish, and 26 other languages.
All this raises the big question of how smart phones will change business, forever. Commentators are already saying this will have massive implications for IT departments which will be struggling to keep up with security and the costs of managing how employees access information and applications.
They will also change mobile banking and e-payment and make it more prevalent, which will in turn have major implications for banks. You can bet that in the next few years, we will see more banks closing branches as consumers and companies pay by phone. It will also change retail with more shoppers using their smart phones to do their shopping and locate bargains.
