Internet security company Symantec has confirmed something that anyone with an Inbox would have known for some time: just about every email coming in is spam.
According to this Information Week report, Symantec claims that 92% of all email messages is spam, and that's up from 89% a year ago.
On the other hand, the spam is becoming less malicious. Information Week says the amount of spam containing a phishing attack declined from June to July of this year by 5%.
Or maybe the spammers are just getting smarter. According to the report, we now seeing a new trend with a new type of attack that copies an e-commerce website's "live chat" feature that targets a person's login ID and password for the legitimate e-commerce site.
And there are warnings that spammers are now targeting social networking sites.
Whichever way you look at it, the Black Hats are winning.
