The report, Insuring for Sustainability, put out by the Insurance Working Group of the Geneva-based United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative says there are a range of other major risks including insurance for the poor, protection of natural resources, health, lifelong income and emerging threats like nanotechnology.
But climate change is still the big one. And if you think it's just a beat-up and part of a campaign to whip up public hysteria, check this graph from the report showing how economic losses from extreme weather events are scaling new records:

It's truly the largest risk in that it's the most unpredictable. Insurers have yet to let loose their grip on capacity following Katrina and Rita. Should the global warming predictions play out as expected, we will soon see no insurance for coastal areas. As it is, some insurers are already refusing to insure certain high-risk areas.
