The future of news

What is the future of news and newspapers? Not that bright, according to an OECD report.
The report says that newspaper publishers are facing declining revenues and readership (as if we didn't know that already) but that the "death of the newspaper" is still a long way off. Indeed, there are more diverse news sources around, it's just that people approach these in a more ad hoc way. Which creates problems for the business models of most media companies.
A similar study from PricewaterhouseCoopers, reported here, give pretty much the same picture.
The creator of Google News, Krishna Bharat , says we can expect to see some massive changes. He says there will be more niche players, greater use of social networking and that paying for content is here to stay. The big issue will be working out the right price. And no one has worked that one out yet.
