Unemployment boosts military recruitment



These are troubling times. Soaring unemployment has had a massive impact on military recruitment. According to this report, the US military has met all its recruitment goals for the first time since becoming an all volunteer force in 1973.

Recruitment is running so strong that the military reports it doesn't have to provide bonuses any more entice potential soldiers. And that's despite disallowing previous waivers for criminal offenses such as theft, assault and driving under the influence and waivers for medical conditions such as food allergies and acne. Even allowing for that, people are now clamoring to join the army. At least it's a job.

And unfortunately that means plenty more to send to Afghanistan
