War on guidance
The Business Roundtable Institute for Corporate Ethics and the CFA Centre for Financial Market Integrity have issued a joint report calling on companies to stop giving quarterly earnings forecasts.

The report also calls on companies to better align senior executive compensation with long-term goals.

Securities and Exchange Commission chairman Christopher Cox has called the recommendations healthy.

But could they backfire?

Big investors have warned that it could lead to less transparency and might give companies an excuse to avoid communicating, according to one report.
