McDonalds, Starbucks and Nike are named on Ethisphere's list of the the world's most ethical companies for 2009.
Now, there might be a few problems with the methodology, starting with the fact that the companies nominate themselves. They are not selected by specialists surveying the scene.
Then they complete a survey, no doubt with lots of input from spin merchants.
It would be better if the judges could identify how the companies established a business case for ethical behavior and how ethics contributed their bottom line.
But then, that takes a lot more work. Much easier to do it this way because it guarantees the free publicity soaked up by an unquestioning media.
